4:00 PM - 5:30 PM Traumatic Stress, Family Resilience, and Suicide Prevention Jacqueline Garrick,Jane Turner, Rebekah Jones Invited Ministry of Health,&Open Technologies Alliance Mary De Haas,Tony Haripersadh, Cynthia Stimpel The Whistleblower House South Africa& Whistleblowers and their families are subjected to silent, chronic psychological retaliation that can cause post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). Retaliation such as bullying at the place of work, social isolation, persecution, and financial strain often results in PTSD. The effects, however, of PTSD on the children and spouses of whistleblowers have been significantly underestimated. As a result, depression, broken families, and suicide tendencies have become epidemic in modern years following work-related public disclosures against corruption.
